DR. SONIA JUNEJA,

Child, Adolescent, Adult and Forensic psychiatrist

Hello, I’m Doctor Sonia Juneja, a board-certified psychiatrist practicing since 2004. During my career, spanning across two decades, I have helped countless individuals, families, couples and children feel better through pharmacological and psychotherapeutic work.

My approach is holistic, and my practice combines psychological, biological, and social perspectives in providing results-oriented healthcare.

Post residency, I completed a two-year advanced fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry and one year fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at West Virginia University (WVU). While at WVU, I served as chief resident for the Acute Psychiatric Service in which I supervised and mentored junior residents, and medical students, and performed psychiatric evaluations in the emergency department.

I was a consultant psychiatrist at Jewish Social Services Agency ( JSSA), where I worked predominantly with tweens, teenagers and young adults.

Besides running my private practice, I work as consultant psychiatrist at National Center of Children and Families (NCCF), providing psychiatric care to youth in the residential group home, foster care program and independent living facilities, often encountering patients with post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse issues.

INDIVIDUALISED TREATMENTS THROUGH

HOLISTIC AND SYSTEMIC APPROACH TO
PSYCHIATRY

My goal at Washington family Psychiatry is to facilitate an ecosystem of care and empathy so you can embark on a healing journey without feeling shame, guilt, judgement or self-doubts. I strive to put my patient at ease, make them feel heard and understood during the entire course of the treatment. I recognize that many people are hesitant to explore medication, and carefully explains benefits and potential side effects to help patients gain greater understanding of treatment options.

Having lived in India and in America, I am hyper aware of the challenges associated with assimilation and immigration. I recognize the role of one’s cultural upbringing in shaping one’s identity and personality. Being a transnational citizen myself, I am sensitive towards diverse racial and cultural experiences of my patients.
