WELCOME TO

WASHINGTON FAMILY PSYCHIATRY

Trusted Psychiatry Center for Children, Adolescents and Adults

I am Dr. Sonia Juneja, a board-certified psychiatrist practicing since 2004. I founded Washington Family Psychiatry, located in Bethesda, Maryland, with the mission to deliver the highest form of personalized care by adapting an evidence-based, integrative approach to psychiatry.

Through WFP, I hope to foster an ecosystem of care and empathy that brings you closer to your version of success.”

EVIDENCE-BASED
DIAGNOSIS, THE KEY TO
EXCEPTIONAL CARE

At Washington Family Psychiatry, we don’t just treat symptoms, we are interested in getting to the root of your mental health condition, which translates to employing evidence-based assessment tools for a reliable and accurate diagnosis.

Moreover, being a child and forensic psychiatrist, Dr Juneja has the experience and expertise to perform a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation keeping in mind the developmental factors that could influence a patient’s presenting problems. This helps in formulation of a biopsychosocial treatment plan and aids in providing treatment that is based on the best available scientific evidence.

INDIVIDUALISED TREATMENTS THROUGH

HOLISTIC AND SYSTEMIC APPROACH TO PSYCHIATRY

When it comes to navigating complex mental health challenges, there is no such thing as one-size-fits-all plan. At Washington Family Psychiatry, we provide tailored treatments based on the patient’s history, age, and circumstances, using an integrative and collaborative approach that combines evidence-based diagnosis, psychotherapy, psychosocial treatment and/or medicine management.

Our systemic-holistic approach focuses on an individual’s physical, mental, spiritual and emotional needs and places great focus on their social well-being especially in relationship with other interacting systems such as friends, family, workplace and school. A holistic treatment plan involves examining the patient’s lifestyle choices, sleep routine, diet, screen addiction and more.

Initial diagnostic evaluation or consultation

The Initial Psychiatric Evaluation typically involves a 60 minute (adults) or 90 minute (children) Consultation. It is designed to obtain past and current medical, psychiatric, family and developmental history and to understand the patient’s mental, emotional, social, and behavioral status through structured engagement with children (and their caretakers) and adults. The evaluation is performed in a non-hurried manner, with a calm and empathetic demeanor to foster a collaborative atmosphere of care. After completion of the Initial Psychiatric Evaluation, a tailored plan of care is developed and discussed. Follow up appointment is scheduled based on the recommendations and plan discussed in the initial visit. Initial evaluation/consultation does not establish doctor-patient relationship.

Medication Management

A psychiatric follow-up appointment is a subsequent meeting after an initial evaluation. It is typically 25-30 minutes. The session aims to monitor a client’s progress, discuss any medication effects or concerns, adjust treatment plans if necessary, and set goals for future care. The psychiatrist will assess changes in symptoms, provide therapeutic feedback, and address any new challenges or events in the client’s life. The client also has the opportunity to ask questions and share feedback about their treatment. Patients with mild symptoms, who wish to avoid taking medications can often be treated with psychotherapy alone.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy sessions may occur alone or combined with medication management. We offer psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, families and parents. Individual sessions are typically scheduled for either 45 or 60 minutes. Couple and family sessions may range from 60-90 minutes.

OUR TESTIMONIALS

WHY CHOOSE WASHINGTON
FAMILY PSYCHIATRY?

We believe in treating the patient in an all-rounded manner rather than using a quick-fix approach. This begins with psychiatric evaluation and evidence-based diagnosis to understand the root of the problem. The treatment plan is personalized and may involve medication and/or therapy—delivered in a caring, comforting, and private environment.

Our patients can testify that Dr. Juneja is a highly qualified psychiatrist, who is both affable and approachable. She listens without judgement and is as invested in your progress as you are.

As a mother of two teenagers, Dr Juneja has an innate ability to quickly build a rapport with her younger patients and helps them navigate through the disruptive time of their lives through holistic treatment plans.

At WFP, we adopt a dynamic care-giving approach that responds to the changing nature of modern day psychiatric disorders and translates into progress.
